CONCACAF completes field for FIFA U-20 World Cup
Costa Rica won the 2009 CONCACAF Men’s Under-20 Championship four days after completing the field for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt 2009. The Ticos won 3:0 over USA in the confederation final while Honduras won 2:1 over host Trinidad & Tobago in the match for third place.
Costa Rica, USA, Honduras and Trinidad & Tobago were the last four teams to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt 2009. The four CONCACAF teams join Egypt, Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa from Africa, Australia, Korea Republic, United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan from Asia, Czech Republic, England, Germany, Hungary, Italy and Spain from Europe, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela from South America, and Tahiti from Oceanic. The FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt 2009 runs 24 September to 16 October. It is the 17th FIFA U-20 World Cup. Two years ago, the 2007 edition in Canada drew a record 1.2-million spectators, was viewed by a 469.5-million global television audience, and generated $259-million in economic impact. The 24 teams that qualified for Egypt 2009 will learn their group destinations next month at the Official Draw on 5 April. |
