Coaches select All-Star Team
Eighteen players have been recognized as the All-Star Team from the 2009 Canada Games Men’s Soccer Tournament. The team was selected from names submitted by head coaches from 12 teams as well as Canadian Soccer Association staff coaches watching the tournament.

The first XI featured goalkeeper Brad Hughes, defenders Scott Gilroy, Francesco Augustin, Cole MacMillan and Serge Dinkota, midfielders Matthew Stinson, Sean Colvin and Alessandro Riggi, and forwards Mitchell Lamers, Abdoulaye Sylla and Justin Maheu. The so-called substitutes were goalkeeper Tyson Farago, defenders Karl Ouimette and Ashley Ankiewicz, midfielders Nicholas Lindsay and Ian Greedy, and forwards Mircea Ilcu and Armel Dagrou.

Selections made by the 12 team coaches counted for fifty percent of the All-Star Team vote. Coaches were not allowed to select players from their own team. Selections made by the Association’s staff coaches counted for the other fifty percent of the vote.

Along with the All-Star Team, Association coaches also recognized Matthew Stinson, Brad Hughes and Sean Colvin as the top three players of the tournament. Alberta’s Hughes was the Top Goalkeeper while Manitoba’s Amos Ganyea was the Top Scorer (seven goals).

The 2009 Canada Games Men’s Soccer Tournament ran 24-29 August in Charlottetown, PE. Québec won gold, Alberta won silver and Ontario won bronze. Québec has now won two of the last four Canada Games Men’s Soccer Tournaments (1997 and 2009). British Columbia is the all-time leader with five gold medals, followed by Québec, Alberta and Ontario with two gold medals each.
