Journey to Langley 2017 underway across Canada

Posted on 13 May 2017 in National Championships

The journey to Canada Soccer's 2017 National Championships is underway across Canada with close to 200 adult teams competing for a chance to lift the men’s Challenge Trophy and women’s Jubilee Trophy. The provincial and territorial winners from across Canada will meet in Langley, British Columbia from 4-9 October.

More than 120 men’s teams and 70 women’s teams were registered for the two adult competitions. Every province and territory schedules their own qualification route in order to declare a representative at the National Championships in October. This year’s Challenge Trophy and Jubilee Trophy competitions will each feature 10 finalists, with the winners to be crowned on 9 October.

British Columbia, whose 2016-17 season started in September, will wrap up their qualification over the 13-14 May weekend when both men’s and women’s BC Cup winners are declared. All other provinces are scheduled to crown their provincial champions in August and September.

Canada Soccer’s National Championships are Canada's premier amateur soccer competitions. This year marks the 95th edition of the adult men's competition and 36th edition of the adult women's competition. While the competition has sometimes featured professional or semi-professional teams, since the early 1960s the National Championships have strictly featured amateur teams. Since 2008, the National Championships have been complemented by the Amway Canadian Championship featuring professional clubs

In Canada's 150th year, Canada Soccer will crown their 150th national champions across all adult and professional competitions since 1913. The 2017 competitive season will crown the Futsal Canadian Championship winners in April (Montréal Sporting Outlaws FC), the professional Canadian Championship winners in June, and the amateur National Championships women's Jubilee Trophy and men's Challenge Trophy winners in October.
