Mexico captures CONCACAF Gold Cup

Mexico's national team won the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup this afternoon after a 5:0 win over USA at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. It was Mexico's fifth championship in 10 competitions since the tournament made its debut in 1991.
After nearly an hour of scoreless play, Mexico scored five times in the last 35 minutes to capture the confederation title. Mexican captain Gerardo Torrado opened the scoring in the 56th minute with a goal from the penalty spot. Most Valuable Player Giovani Dos Santos scored the second goal in the 62nd minute before substitute Carlos Véla made it 3-0 in the 67th minute. More
