Hollandia Impact repeat as Saskatchewan women's provincial winners
Saskatoon Hollandia Impact will represent Saskatchewan at the 2012 Canadian Soccer Association National Championships after repeating as provincial champions. The Saskatchewan representative will compete in the senior women's Jubilee Trophy competition from 3-8 October in Winnipeg, MB.
As they did one year earlier, Hollandia Impact qualified for the Jubilee Trophy competition after winning a two-match provincial final against Aftershock FC. Hollandia Impact won 6-4 on aggregate, with first a 5:2 victory on 25 August followed by a 1:2 loss on 26 August.
"We felt we were a long way from playing our best soccer," said Hollandia Impact team manager Ron Rabyj, whose team did not have a regular league schedule in 2012. "We felt like we could have played much better in both games. It was good enough to win, but we will have to improve before the National Championships."
In the opening match of the final, Hollandia Impact's starting XI featured Ashley Kambeitz in goal, Sarah Laverty at right back, Maria Rogal and Chantal St. Armand at centre back, Courtney Laverty at left back, Cassie Smith, Kristy Husulak, Megan Rowan and Andrea Murphy at midfield, and Elizabeth Hudon and Jamie Tomchuk up front. On the bench, the team featured Andrea Cessnia, Amber Fusco, Ashley Hunter, Jessica Morrow and Kathleen Schneider. Regular Kristen Huel was not available for the first match, but did play in the second match. Theresa Bodnar and Maura Cerkkowniak were both injured and unavailable for the provincial final.
In 2012, Hollandia Impact was once again coached by Percy Hoff. In the opening match, Hudon scored a hat trick while Tomchuk and Smith scored one goal apiece. In the second match, Tomchuk scored in the loss. This year will mark Hoff's third trip to the Jubilee Trophy competition as head coach, having previously finished sixth in 2011 with Hollandia Impact and fourth in 2009 with Saskatoon NATA.
