FC Northwest tops Erin Mills Eagles for championship U-18 boys title

Manitoba’s FC Northwest, the only unbeaten club in the U-18 Cup competition of the 2012 Canadian Soccer Association National Club Championships held in Sydney, NS, defeated Ontario’s Erin Mills Eagles 2:1 on Monday for the championship title.

FC Northwest took control of the final match early on, when Brendan Rattai, the tournament’s top scorer, opened the score in the 15’ minute. Genio Cisterino added to Manitoba’s lead with a goal of his own in the 22’.

Erin Mills Eagles managed to cut the lead in the 63’ when Marc Medeiros put one pass the Manitoba keeper. Ontario would not manage to secure a second goal and saw FC Northwest capture the U-18 Championship title with a 2:1 win.

In the bronze medal match, British Columbia’s Coquitlam FC defeated Quebec’s Longueuil 2:1 thanks to goals from Andre Clerc and Chad De Boer. Alexandre Garceau was the lone scorer on the Quebec side.
