Posted on 24 May 2010 in Men's U-20 Team

Canada's men's U-20 team rounded out the 2010 Internationale Cor Groenewegen Toernooi in Groenewegen with a 2:0 victory over KSC Lokeren, thus finishing 11th in the 12-team tournament. Canada's Justin Maheu scored two goals in the classification match.

All 12 teams finished the round robin action today before advancing to their respective classification matches. From the top-two seeds in each group, there was an additional round to determine a champion. Korea Republic won the final 1:0 over Japan on the strength of a goal by Jung Ho Li.

"The tournament was exactly what we needed to gain international experience," said Canadian U-20 head coach Valerio Gazzola. "We will use it as a base for preparations for the 2011 CONCACAF Men's Under-20 Championship."

On 24 May, Canada lost 1:3 to Voetbalacademie Twente and 0:1 to tournament host FC Uitgeest. As such, Canada finished last in its group with no points (0-0-5).

In the classification round, Canada faced KSC Lokeren from the opposite group, who like Canada finished last with no points (0-0-5). Maheu scored the winning goal on a pass from Jaineil Hoilett in the 17th minute.
