Canada’s Para Soccer Team gearing up for final camp of 2011

Canada’s Para Soccer Team will take part in the squad’s final camp of the 2011 season from 28 November to 4 December at the Arco Olympic Training Centre in Chula Vista, California.
Canada will play three friendly matches against USA during the weeklong camp.
Head Coach Drew Ferguson has invited five new players into the program as the team looks to expand its player pool ahead of its 2012 campaign.
“We have a total of five new players to our program that will see their first action at a national camp,” said Ferguson. “We also have three players who have been in our player pool in the past but have been sitting on the outside looking in.”
Overall, Ferguson had opted to call in a youthful squad for the training camp with seven of the players aged 21 and under.
“This will be a chance for the younger players to prove that they are ready to fight for a regular spot in the program,” stated Ferguson.
The Canadian head coach is also keen to enlarge the team’s pool of CP-5 players, one of the specific Cerebral Palsy categories that makes-up a key part of Canada’s roster.
“One of the areas that we have struggled to compete with the rest of the world has been the player pool in the CP-5 area,” said Ferguson. “After the World Championships this year, we focused on the recruitment of CP-5 athletes and now have a total of 10 CP-5 athletes, with four of those athletes attending this camp.”
