Canada opens 2009 Francophone Games

Canada's men's U-20 team fell 2:3 to Rwanda in the opening night of group action at the 2009 Francophone Games in Lebanon. Canada is in third place in Group B behind Rwanda (three points, 1-0-0) and Cameroon (no games yet).The 2009 Francophone Games run 26 September to 6 October in Beirut and Saïda, Lebanon. There are nine teams in the competition separated into three groups. Only four of the nine teams advance to the semi-final stage (three group leaders and one second-place team).
While Rwanda won the opening match of Group B, Congo won over host Lebanon in Group A (Côte d'Ivoire did not play) and Morocco won over Senegal in Group C (France did not play).
This is Canada's sixth participation in the 2009 Francophone Games. Canada was champion in the inaugural event back in 1989.
