Canada's men U-20 has opened the four-team Marbella Cup on a good note, winning 2:1 over USA in a 10 October 2012 match. Teenagers Samuel Piette and Caleb Clarke were the goal scorers in the win.
"There is a lot of character on this team," said Canadian U-20 coach Nick Dasovic. "The camp is looking good and I am positive about this bunch of guys. We have a good thing going and we just need to keep carrying it through for the next couple of games."
Canada, Azerbaijan, Scotland and USA are the four teams competing in the tournament, with matches on 10 October (v USA), 12 October (v Azerbaijan) and 15 October (v Scotland). The Canadian camp will be based at the Marbella Football Center in Marbella, Spain.
Canada's team features goalkeepers Ricky Gomes and Quillan Roberts, defenders Doneil Henry, Manjrekar James, Nikola Paunic, Jon Dollery, Marco Lapenna, Allan Zebie, and midfielders/forwards Bryce Alderson, Keven Aleman, Caleb Clarke, Dylan Carreiro, Mauro Eustáquio, Ben Fisk, Jonathan Lao, Kevin Luarca, Michael Petrasso, Samuel Piette, Alessandro Riggi, and Stefan Vukovic.
The camp and competition is part of Canada's early preparations for the 2013 CONCACAF Men's Under-20 Championship. The biennial 12-team CONCACAF competition (18 February to 3 March in Mexico) serves as the qualification route for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Turkey 2013 (with four teams from CONCACAF earning spots in the 24-team global competition).
