Brazil prevails in final Group D match

Canada's women's U-17 team completed Group D play with a 0:2 defeat to Brazil on Monday night at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Trinidad and Tobago 2010. The loss ends Canada's World Cup dreams as the young Canucks finish in third place in their group and will not advance to the knock-out stage of the tournament. In other Group D action on Monday, the Republic of Ireland ran out 3:0 winners over Ghana to secure first place in the highly competitive group. The eight sides to reach the quarter-final stage of the competition have now been confirmed; Nigeria and Korea DPR from Group A, Germany and Korea Republic from Group B, Spain and Japan from Group C, and the Republic of Ireland and Brazil from Group D.
Canada, whose title sponsor is BMO Financial Group, has competed in each of the first two FIFA U-17 Women's World Cups, Trinidad and Tobago 2010 and New Zealand 2008.
