Amway Canada to return as title sponsor of Canadian Championship

Posted on 26 January 2012 in Sponsors & Partnerships

The Canadian Soccer Association is pleased to announce that Amway Canada will return as the title sponsor of the Canadian Championship and become a primary partner of the association with an involvement in the Active Start Soccer Fests, National Teams and the Canadian Soccer Association’s National Championships.

Amway, who began their relationship with the Canadian Soccer Association in 2008, have renewed their agreement with the association for two years through to 2013.

As part of the renewal, the Nutrilite Canadian Championship will be renamed the Amway Canadian Championship with a new logo design introduced to reflect this change.

"The Canadian Soccer Association is pleased to continue its partnership with Amway Canada who have been a key contributor to the association's ongoing commitment to building the sport of soccer in this country,” stated Peter Montopoli, General Secretary for the Canadian Soccer Association. “We look forward to working with Amway Canada and our partners in growing the country's professional club championship."

"We are pleased to join the Canadian Soccer Association in this year of celebration: for Amway Canada, it's 50 years of helping Canadians live better lives; and for the CSA, it's 100 years of growing this wonderful sport from coast to coast," Lydia Ayora, Amway Canada's Country Manager explained. " We are proud to support all levels of Canadian soccer, from kid-friendly, community-based soccer festivals, to our elite professional and national clubs. We believe 2012 will be a marquee year for Canadian soccer and we're thrilled to be a part of every exciting moment."

The 2012 Amway Canadian Championship will again feature a four-team format that will see teams take part in a two-legged home-and-away semi-final before repeating the same process in the final to determine which club will lift the Voyageurs Cup and earn the right to represent Canada in the 2012-213 CONCACAF Champions League.

With clubs being seeded based on their 2011 league results in MLS and NASL respectively the 2012 Championship will feature a pair of regional rivalries in the initial semi-final stage.

Three-time defending champions Toronto FC will do battle against Eastern rivals Impact Montréal over two legs on 2 and 9 May, while Vancouver Whitecaps FC and FC Edmonton will square-off on the same dates in the Championship’s other semi-final.

The two winners of both semi-finals will then contest the Championship final over two matches on 16 and 23 May.

The highest seeded team in the Championship final will determine whether it plays home or away first.

The 2012 Amway Canadian Championship will serve as the qualification competition for the 2012-2013 CONACAF Champions League, which in turn determines the confederation’s representative at the 2013 FIFA Club World Cup™.
