Canada Soccer partners with FIFA Futsal World Champions Portugal on ground-breaking Coaching License Opportunity

Historic partnership in Canadian futsal coaching development.

In partnership with the Portuguese Football Federation and Futsal Canada, Canada Soccer announced today that it will offer Canadian futsal coaches from across the country the opportunity to participate and obtain the Portuguese Federation’s Level 1 Futsal Coaching License in May 2024.

“Canada Soccer is thankful to the Portuguese Football Federation and Futsal Canada for their partnership in organizing this exciting initiative,” said Dave Nutt Interim Director of Development. “Coach development is player development, and supporting coaches to learn and grow will also have a lasting impact on the development of futsal players from across the country.”

About the Course

The intensive futsal course will be held in Lisbon, Portugal from 6-19 May 2024 and will be taught in English. Portugal’s top futsal instructors will lead valuable sessions on methodology, psychology, organization, management, and tactics.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn not only from elite in-class and on-court sessions, but also by attending and engaging with Portugal’s National Youth Futsal Teams camps.

Additionally, participants will have the chance to watch exciting playoff matches from the Portuguese Men’s league (Liga Placard), Women’s league (Liga Feminina Placard) and the U19 Youth National Championship.

Futsal Coach License Course Instructor

The lead instructor for the course will be world-renowned futsal coach, Jorge Braz.

As the reigning and defending FIFA Futsal World Cup Champion, two-time UEFA Futsal Euro Champion, and four-time consecutive winner of the Best Men’s National Team Coach in the World, Braz is widely regarded as the most accomplished futsal coach in the world today.

“Futsal participation is growing and the opportunity for Canadian futsal coaches to learn from Jorge Braz and his team will be invaluable to the continued development of the sport in Canada,” added Nutt.
